Mark Carney sent a clear message to US President Donald Trump in his first speech as Prime Minister of Canada.
"We will never, never, in any way, be part of the United States," he said in his statements, responding to the US president's statements that Canada becomes the 51st American state.
Immediately after the announcement, he expressed his respect for the US and stated that he would seek ways to "collaborate" with his American counterpart.
In addition to statements about the "51st American state," Carney is taking the reins of the country at a time when Canada is being asked to face the crisis that is expected to bring about American tariffs on a number of Canadian products.
