A researcher and historian claims to have discovered the true identity of the infamous Jack the Butcher, thanks to a perfect DNA match.
This notorious serial killer terrorized London in 1888, killing at least five women in the Whitechapel district. His known victims include Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly, who were murdered between August 31 and November 9 of that year.
Who has been identified as Jack the Ripper?
According to researcher Russell Edwards, the killer is Aaron Kosminski, a Polish barber who emigrated to London and was one of the main suspects at the time. He and biochemist Jari Louhelainen of Liverpool John Moores University analyzed a scarf found near Catherine Eddowes' body and concluded that the DNA matched perfectly to a descendant of Kosminski.
Edwards emphasizes that this result has completely convinced him that the mystery of one of the most famous criminal cases in history has finally been solved.
Despite this claim, many experts remain skeptical. They question the authenticity of the scarf and point out that there is no irrefutable evidence that it was actually at the scene.
Furthermore, there is criticism that the full DNA results were not published due to British laws, raising doubts about the transparency of the study.
Forensic expert Walther Parson says the lack of publication of the data makes it impossible for other researchers to verify Edwards' claims.
