The Russian nuclear-capable Tu-95MS strategic bomber aircraft carried out a routine patrol flight over neutral waters over the Sea of Japan, according to a report by Russian media.
Russia's state-run RIA news agency quoted Russia's defense ministry as saying that fighter jets from foreign countries accompanied the bombers at various stages of the planned 11-hour flight.
This action by Moscow comes after Lithuania, a NATO member, accused Russia of violating its airspace with two military aircraft yesterday.
Russia's defense ministry indirectly denied Lithuania's claims when it later said its fighter jets conducted a "training flight" over Russia's Kaliningrad region and did not violate the borders of any other country.
