NATO discusses support for Ukraine, decides not to send troops to the ground

NATO defense chiefs gathered on Wednesday for an open discussion on ways the alliance can provide stability and security guarantees for Ukraine, with the aim of reaching a peace agreement that would end the three-year conflict with Russia.

During the meeting, several countries, including Lithuania, discussed the possibility of sending troops as a form of direct support to Kiev. However, it was ultimately decided that, for now, NATO would only provide military and technical assistance, without the presence of forces on the ground.

The United States, as the leader of the diplomatic effort, has clearly ruled out sending American troops, and other European countries appear to be following the same course. This decision remains temporary and could be reviewed if the situation on the front changes.

Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of NATO's Military Committee, highlighted that 32 defense chiefs from across the alliance participated in the video conference, describing it as an important step in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict without the use of force.
