US President Donald Trump has made an unusual gaffe when he spoke about ending the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but instead mentioned Albania.
During a statement given on August 19 on The Mark Levin Show, Trump spoke about his successes in foreign policy, mentioning, among other things, his role in brokering the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and, as he put it, "Albania."
"A lot of big things happened. You saw Azerbaijan. It was a 34, 35-year-old issue with, uh... Albania," Trump said, confusing Armenia with Albania.
“I got to know the leaders through trade relations. I said, ‘Why are you guys fighting? There will be no trade deal if you don’t stop.’ It was crazy,” he added.
This statement stunned many analysts and media, given that Albania has no conflict with Azerbaijan, and is located thousands of kilometers away from the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has historically been the object of conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that during the first months of his presidency, he has mediated the resolution of several international conflicts. In the same interview, he stated:
"I've solved six wars, maybe even seven, according to some people. There's one that nobody knows about. And we have Iran, I eliminated their nuclear capability, which they would have used against Israel in two seconds, if they had it," Trump said.
