Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered a shortened deadline for taking control of the “last terrorist strongholds” in Gaza and for the “final defeat of Hamas.” He did not give a precise deadline for the military operation, but hinted that the offensive would intensify in the coming days and weeks.
" I express my great gratitude to the reservists who have been mobilized, to their families and to all Israeli soldiers. Together we will win ," Netanyahu said in a statement to the media.
Israel has warned it will call up some 60,000 reservists in the coming weeks in preparation for a new ground offensive. The massive mobilization comes as the Israeli government continues to order the forcible displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza City and surrounding areas.
This development is expected to further escalate the humanitarian crisis in the territory, where over 2 million residents already face a severe shortage of food, water, and medical care.
