After the statements of the new Macedonian president, who during the swearing-in referred to the country only as Macedonia, the future Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristian Mickoski challenges Greece, saying that it is the country's constitutional right to be called whatever it wants.
"I was waiting for our southern neighbor to congratulate us. On the contrary, unfortunately, they showed us their political wings. My personal constitutional right is to choose what to call my country and when I make statements and when I speak to you, journalists, both myself and I expect President Silianovska to use the terms Macedonia and Macedonians, as in this way, based on our interpretation of the Prespa Agreement, there is no violation of the agreement and on this occasion I call on our friends in Greece to stop threats, obstacles, not to return to the past, to look to the future.
After the new Macedonian President called her country Macedonia, unlike the official name, Greece reacted strongly. The Greek Foreign Minister said that the president violated the Prespa Agreement, threatening that it will affect the integration of North Macedonia in the European Union", said Mickoski.
After the statement of the Greek Foreign Minister, Mickoski called on Greece to stop the attacks on his country and if there is any problem to go to the court of The Hague.
"If they think we have violated the Prespa Agreement, let them go to the International Court of Justice in The Hague. They can start a process and there we will see the arguments of one side and the other. I would like to go there."
The issue of naming North Macedonia has brought back the crisis between the two countries, which had been overcome for some time. The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs has said that one of the preconditions for the promotion of the European process is the respect of the Prespa Agreement by North Macedonia" , he said.
