The assassination of the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, seems to have inspired citizens in other countries for such extremist acts. Today, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that he received threats after the assassination of his Slovak counterpart.
The political atmosphere in Poland has been charged in recent years, including the 2019 assassination of a liberal Gdansk mayor who was a critic of the anti-immigrant policies of the then-ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.
The Polish website Wp.pl said on Thursday, citing a source in the State Protection Service, that Tusk's protection will be strengthened after the assassination of Fico.
A spokesman for the State Protection Service, the body responsible for protecting Poland's most important people, declined to comment, saying its activities were confidential.
We recall that yesterday Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot five times at close range on Wednesday, prompting international condemnation and calls for calming political tensions.
