It is past midnight in Islamabad and there is still no official statement or press release from the talks between American and Iranian negotiators in Pakistan. The limited information that has leaked from the Iranian side has hinted at some of the sticking points.
A source close to Tehran's negotiating team told CNN today that the US has made "unacceptable demands" on the Strait of Hormuz and several other issues.
The Iranian media's reporting trend is similar. The semi-official Mehr news agency reports that the US has made excessive demands on its Iranian interlocutors.
"Draft texts have been exchanged between Iranian and American delegations, but reports indicate that US "excessive demands" have hindered progress, with no signs of progress and serious differences remaining as talks stretched into the early hours of Sunday morning ," Iranian state television reported from Islamabad.
The state-run IRIB media agency wrote a line saying that the US is taking an overzealous approach in this round of talks.
However, there is still no official announcement from the US-Iran talks. Despite the setbacks, the talks are reportedly ongoing and could last until the end.
