Netanyahu ready for talks with Lebanon: We want a peace agreement that will last
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel is ready to begin direct talks with Lebanon for a historic peace agreement that will last for generations.

He added that there are two main conditions for this agreement; the complete dismantling of Hezbollah's weapons and a lasting peace that lasts for generations.

"Lebanon has approached us several times over the past month to begin direct peace talks. I have given my approval, but with two conditions: we want the dismantling of Hezbollah's weapons and we want a real peace agreement that will last for generations ," Netanyahu said in a televised statement.

The statement comes at a time when Israel and Lebanon are preparing for possible talks expected to take place next week in Washington, under pressure from the United States.

Netanyahu has ordered his cabinet to start negotiations "as soon as possible." According to international sources, Lebanon has expressed interest in dialogue, but has its own conditions, including the implementation of a sustainable ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has expressed opposition to direct talks without a prior ceasefire. It remains to be seen whether the talks will lead to concrete results, or whether deep differences between the parties will prevent a historic agreement from being reached.
