The two downed American planes in Iran

Tensions in the Middle East are rising as the conflict with Iran has so far caused the loss of seven American aircraft.

Recent events have included the downing of two aircraft just yesterday, an F-15E Strike Eagle and an A-10 Warthog, reflecting the high risks of air operations in this volatile region.

One F-15 pilot was rescued, while the other remains missing, raising concerns about the safety of military personnel and the effectiveness of US air missions, the BBC reports.

The F-15E Strike Eagle is a twin-engine aircraft developed by McDonnell Douglas (now part of Boeing), designed for long-range attack and ground support.

It combines the capabilities of an air fighter with those of a bomber, has a high maneuverability ratio, advanced electronic equipment, and day-night attack capabilities, which allow the pilot to strike strategic targets while reducing the risk from enemy defenses.

The price of a new F-15E reaches around $100 million, making it one of the US Air Force's most powerful aircraft.

Meanwhile, the A-10 Warthog specializes in close-in support and is known for its exceptional durability, continuing its mission even after multiple injuries.

It is equipped with the GAU-8 Avenger 30mm cannon, a very powerful weapon against tanks and armored vehicles, and has the ability to carry a large payload of missiles and bombs, making it an indispensable tool for ground operations.

The price of a new A-10 is around $18-20 million. Both aircraft have played a key role in US operations in the region.

The F-15E is primarily used for strategic strikes and air defense, while the A-10 provides firepower close to the front lines, ensuring protection for ground troops and effectively neutralizing enemy forces.

This latest development highlights the challenges facing the Air Force in an area where air defenses and regional tensions make every flight dangerous.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has confirmed that 365 US soldiers have been injured since the launch of Operation "Epic Fury" nearly five weeks ago in Iran, while the death toll remains at 13.

According to updated data, the majority of the wounded are from the Army, with 247 soldiers affected. The Navy reports 63 wounded, the Marine Corps 19 and the Air Force 36.

The Pentagon says more than 75 percent of injuries are traumatic brain injuries, caused by external blows to the head. These can be accompanied by symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting or loss of consciousness, with severity varying depending on the blow.

Officials say the soldiers classified as seriously injured face potentially life-threatening conditions. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Keene, stressed that most of the injuries were caused by Iranian drone strikes.

The Pentagon also warns that the number of injured could increase in the future.
