French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vučić, regarding bilateral relations and regional issues, particularly regarding developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, following Dodik's 1-year prison sentence.
Revealing details from the conversation, the French President said that he had discussed with Vučić the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the "details" of the situation in the Western Balkans.
Macron confirmed to Vučić his belief that "Serbia's European future is its true path", as well as "his hope that it will progress on this path of reforms and membership, in the spirit of dialogue".
"We discussed all aspects of relations between Serbia and France and decided to further strengthen our cooperation," Macron wrote on the social network X.
The French president stressed that the two also spoke in detail about the regional situation. "I stressed the importance that France attaches to the stability, unity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as respect for the rule of law," he said.
Macron also paid special attention to the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, stating that France condemns any unilateral action that could jeopardize it:
“I recalled the importance of the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo and our condemnation of any unilateral step that would compromise it.”
Regarding the Western Balkans as a whole, the French president concluded with the words: “together with the countries of the Western Balkans, Europe will understand and realize its destiny in the spirit of unity, solidarity and responsibility.”
Meanwhile, in another announcement, Vučić announced that during the conversation with Macron he had emphasized that "Serbia remains committed to all processes aimed at maintaining peace, cooperation and prosperity, and I reiterated that the country's development, well-being, as well as the protection of the Serbian people, are our main national interests."
"I emphasized our commitment to dialogue and respect for international law, as well as our readiness to contribute to the long-term stability of the region," Vučić announced.
He expressed his gratitude to Macron for his personal commitment when it comes to the Western Balkans, as well as for the continued support that France offers to Serbia on its European path, and invited him to visit Serbia.
