Hundreds of kilograms of cocaine were found and seized by Greek police authorities, while three members of a drug trafficking network were arrested.
The arrested are a Bulgarian and two Greeks, while over 270 kilograms of cocaine, which was divided into 230 packages, were seized.
The value of the drugs is estimated at over 5.5 million euros. The drugs arrived at the port of Thessaloniki, inside a special container with bananas, having departed from Ecuador, which is considered the "heart" of cocaine trafficking worldwide.
The information was provided to the Greek authorities by the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA). Based on this information, the Greek authorities were notified of the transport and import, by sea, from a Latin American country, of a container containing a large quantity of cocaine, which was to stop at the Port of Thessaloniki.
Regarding the role of each member, the Greek police announced:
Aged 47, he was responsible for communicating with members of the leadership and coordinating the operational team, for extracting and retrieving narcotics from the container depot.
32 years old, was responsible for exporting and distributing quantities of cocaine to other members of the organization
The 40-year-old, owner of a road freight company, had provided space and security measures on behalf of the organization to facilitate the export of drugs from the container.
At the same time, the involvement of members in both Greece and Latin America has been verified, including leaders whose identities are being investigated.
