Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the situation around the eastern city of Pokrovsk is now "very difficult".
This strategic city is located in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.
Russia has recently made progress towards Pokrovsk and repeatedly announces that it is taking control of villages in the vicinity of this city.
"Pokrovsky and other areas in the Donetsk region are very close: the main Russian efforts and the largest number of forces are concentrated there," Zelensky said on August 28, referring to information presented to him by Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrsky.
The General Staff of Ukraine also said that "the most difficult situation is in the Pokrovsky sector".
In the announcement issued on the evening of August 28, it was said that "fierce fighting" is taking place in a number of villages near the town of Pokrovski.
Due to the advance of the Russian forces, many residents of Pokrovski have been evacuated from this strategic city./ REL
