A thousand Ukrainians seek to evacuate Israel after Hamas attacks

Ukraine's ambassador to Israel said nearly 1,000 Ukrainians have sought help from the Ukrainian Embassy in Tel Aviv to evacuate, following the outbreak of fighting between Israel and Palestinian Hamas militants.

Ambassador Yevhen Korniychuk told REL that the number of Ukrainians seeking to leave has increased and this creates a complicated problem.

"We have nowhere to evacuate the citizens. We will not transport people from one war to another. Our main goal is to evacuate as many people as possible in a short period of time," said Korniychuk.

Of the entire Russian-speaking population in Israel, almost half a million people are of Ukrainian origin.

"All these people either have a Ukrainian passport or have the right to have such a passport," said Ambassador Korniychuk, adding that as long as Ukraine continues the fight against Russian occupation, Kiev cannot afford to pay for the flights of these people. persons.

He stated that 15,000 Ukrainian citizens have registered at the Consulate, stressing that these are people who have chosen to register themselves. According to this list, 160 Ukrainians work in Gaza.

On October 7, the militant group Hamas launched its biggest assault on Israel in years, attacking it by land, air and sea. Israel responded with heavy attacks and continues to bombard Gaza, a territory where about 2 million people live.
