A major clash has erupted in the Trump administration. Elon Musk and the president's advisor, Peter Navarro, have clashed at a distance, hurling accusations at each other.
In 2017, during Trump's final presidency, Politico wrote that Navarro was "the most dangerous man in Trump's world."
Navarro is a longtime aide and confidant of Donald Trump.
His economic views are far beyond conventional economic thought.
He is a long-time advocate of tariffs with premeditated plans to overthrow the post-World War II economic system of free trade and international institutions.
He was imprisoned in 2024 for resisting a congressional subpoena. He was told to appear before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. He refused.
The committee alleged that he developed plans to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.
The call was motivated by a plan by Navarro revealed in a book published in 2021. The Green Bay Sweep was a plot by him and other Trump loyalists to overturn the 2020 election.
He described it as "the last, best chance to snatch the stolen election from the jaws of Democratic fraud."
