"Without insulin we will die," diabetic patients in Lebanon amid

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly difficult, as Israeli bombardments in some areas of the country have continued for several days. Amidst the insecurity and escalating conflict, many citizens are struggling to secure vital medical supplies.

Cyrine Farhat, a 34-year-old from Beirut and mother of two who suffers from type 1 diabetes, described the situation as a "major crisis."

"The situation on the ground is extremely tense," she said, citing the "continuous shelling and rapid escalation" of violence in the Lebanese capital.

According to her, the country is also facing a serious shortage of short-acting insulin, a vital medicine for people with type 1 diabetes. Farhat said she has checked several pharmacies to secure the necessary insulin, but without success.

"This is a huge crisis. Personally, I'm out of stock and I only managed to secure one box, which will last me for about a month ," she told CNN.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, a lack of insulin for patients with type 1 diabetes can cause diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a dangerous condition that, if left untreated, can quickly lead to death.

Farhat said that suppliers have not given a clear deadline for when pharmacies will be supplied with insulin again.

"There is no clear reason or explanation as to when supplies will be restored," she stressed.

The 34-year-old is also the founder of the non-profit organization Positive on Glucose, which supports people with diabetes. According to her, many other patients with type 1 diabetes are turning to her for help, as they too are unable to find insulin.

"Others are asking me for help because they can't find insulin, but I'm not able to help them," said Farhat, adding that the anxiety and insecurity experienced by citizens is very great due to the war and the lack of vital medicines.
