US President Joe Biden has signed the $95 billion aid package after the Senate on Tuesday voted strongly in a bipartisan majority to approve the distribution of funds to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
The Senate approved the bill by a vote of 79 to 18, following similar approval in the House of Representatives last weekend. The president, who had been pushing Congress for months to pass the foreign aid measure, said he would sign it Wednesday and immediately begin the process of sending much-needed weapons to Ukraine as early as this week.
"Congress has passed my legislation to strengthen our national security and send a message to the world about the strength of American leadership: we stand resolutely for democracy and freedom, and against tyranny and oppression," he said.
The legislation includes $60.8 billion for Ukraine as it seeks to push Russia back from its territory; $26.3 billion for Israel and humanitarian aid for civilians in conflict zones, including Gaza, and $8.1 billion for the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen its defenses against China.
