Turkey's parliament has announced it is boycotting companies that support Israel, saying their products will not be sold in any of their restaurants, cafes or teahouses.
According to a statement from Turkey's Grand National Assembly, the decision was taken by parliament speaker Numan Kurtulus in support of "public sensitivity" to the sale of products by companies that "have openly declared their support for Israel's war crimes."
The statement did not name any of the companies that were shunned. A person familiar with the developments told the Reuters news agency that Coca-Cola drinks and Nestle instant coffee were the only brands removed, a decision made due to public demand.
On social media, activists have called for people to boycott Israeli goods and Western companies that support its attack on Gaza.
The rising number of civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip has sparked outrage in Turkey. Last week, Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel for consultations despite recent efforts to normalize relations./ AP
