Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and after the conversation he declared the meeting to be "cordial and successful."

"President Xi personally invited me for a state visit to China in a short conversation. We will come for an official state visit in the next six months," Vučić said.

He also boasted that the Chinese leader extended the meeting by an extra 15 minutes and spoke outside the framework of protocol, "something he only does when it comes to friends."

Vučić said he spoke to Xi about the history of the Serbian people and their role in World War II. "I told him how the Serbian people rose up against fascism in World War II... So that people know that the Serbian people were the bearers of the fight against fascism," he said.

The Serbian president added that they also discussed current infrastructure projects, such as the opening of the Belgrade-Subotica railway within 15 days, which, according to him, particularly pleased the Chinese president.

He also stressed his admiration for Chinese technological innovations. "It's incredible how far they've come, and we're falling behind. We'll have to see how we can use this in the future."

Vučić thanked China for its support in "moments of crisis," from helping with the railway and respirators during the pandemic to vetoing the resolution on Srebrenica. "Without China, we would not have been able to have the support of most nations in the world."

The Serbian president also provided personal details, saying he had "prepared all night" for his conversation with Xi, as well as an anecdote about his son Vukan, whom he wants to teach Chinese.

Finally, he emphasized that everyone in China knows him. "You go out on the street here, the first word you hear is 'Vučić.' The hotel staff wants to take a picture with me," he said proudly.

Vučić announced that Chinese state television CCTV would broadcast his half-hour interview and described his visit as a great success for Serbia.
