Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine and its allies must implement security guarantees during the war, not only when the end of the conflict is reached.
Speaking alongside EU chief Antonio Costa at a news conference in Uzhgorod, western Ukraine, Zelenskyy said the two discussed Kiev's accession to the EU and that a "security system" was being worked out to confront Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy also said that European and American officials would meet in the coming days to coordinate sanctions and said he felt like "now there is a chance" to promote peace.
The meeting with Costa today focused on Ukraine's EU membership.
Similarly, the Ukrainian leader also confirmed reports that during a phone call between Trump and Ukraine and its allies yesterday, the US president called on European countries to stop buying Russian oil.
Zelenskyy went so far as to name the offenders: “Slovakia, Hungary and maybe others.” He will meet later with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to discuss the country’s divestment from Russian oil.
