Tragic flooding in Texas, Trump visits the area: It's terrible

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump landed in Central Texas on Friday to see up close the devastation caused by last week's deadly flooding. Emergency crews and family members continue their search for missing people.

The Trump family spoke with local officials and emergency responders in Kerrville, Texas, as the death toll in the state rose to 121, according to local law enforcement and Governor Greg Abbott.

The Trump family, along with Abbott, met with emergency responders against the backdrop of a Kerrville fire truck and a pile of felled trees.

More than 170 people are still missing after flash floods swept through the region in the early morning of July 4.

Drones, rescue teams and volunteers are searching through the rubble, hoping to find answers for the families of the missing. Most of the confirmed deaths occurred in Kerr County, where the Trump family is visiting.

At Camp Mystic, a girls' summer camp with cabins along the river in a rural part of Kerr County near Hunt, at least 27 campers and counselors died in what the camp described as "catastrophic flooding."

Some survivors said they were awakened by water rushing out of the windows.

The president landed in San Antonio on Air Force One before a short helicopter ride took him and the first lady to Kerrville.

The Trump family is expected to review recovery efforts and participate in a roundtable discussion with officials and rescue workers. Trump told reporters they will also meet with some of the families. The first couple is scheduled to spend about three hours in Texas before heading to Bedminster, New Jersey.

"It's a terrible thing, a terrible thing," the president told reporters Friday before leaving the White House. "Nobody can believe it. So much water, so fast."
