US-EU clash over Greenland, Starmer: The decision belongs to the island's
Keir Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after weeks of "significant turbulence", spoke about US-UK relations.

"Our values are not improvised, they have been patiently built over time, and protecting these values is of paramount importance," Starmer said.

Regarding Britain's relationship with the US, Starmer said: " A close relationship with the US delivers concrete results in our national interest, providing jobs and security."

He stressed that he is in daily contact with all key figures in the Trump administration, to ensure direct benefits for Britain.

The British Prime Minister also spoke about the security of Greenland, emphasizing that any decision on the island belongs to the people of Greenland.

"With the opening of sea routes and the intensification of strategic competition, the northern part will require more attention. Any decision on the status of Greenland belongs solely to the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark ," he said.

On trade policy, Starmer sharply criticized the use of tariffs against allies.

"Using tariffs against allies is completely wrong. This is not the right way to resolve differences within an alliance." He also added that "such actions harm British workers, businesses and the economy," Starmer stressed.

Regarding the international situation, Starmer said that a trade war is in no one's interest. He also expressed support for some of Trump's efforts, particularly efforts to stop the violence and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

"The UK will work closely with the US, Ukraine and other allies to put pressure on Putin where necessary," Starmer said.

Finally, Starmer concluded his speech with an appeal to protect those most vulnerable from the consequences of the economic crisis.

"Those with the least power are the ones who feel the blow first when prices rise and supply chains break down," the British prime minister said.
