Petkovic accuses Kosovo: He wants to drag Serbia into the conflict!

The head of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, accused the Kosovo authorities of "warmongering", saying that their "obsessive mission" is to "draw Serbia into conflict with NATO".

The comments come a day after authorities in Kosovo shut down five parallel Serbian institutions in the country's Serb-majority north.

According to them, they were led by Serbia and violated the constitutionality and laws of Kosovo.

The action prompted the reaction of the European Union, the United States and other Western countries, which described it as "uncoordinated" with Western allies and a security risk.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that he is "concerned about the violence" and about the "repeated violation of the rights of Serbs".

In the communiqué issued to the media, Petkovic also criticized the participation of the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in the security forum, Globsec, which is taking place in Prague.

According to him, it is unbelievable that the representatives of the European political and academic community, gathered in Globsek, "tolerate the presence of representatives of Pristina in a forum that should deal with peace and security in our continent".

In a statement given to Radio Free Europe on the sidelines of this forum, Osmani said that Kosovo's actions to extend sovereignty are legitimate, but added that their success depends on cooperation with allies.

Kosovo describes the Serbian municipal institutions in the country as illegal.

However, the western allies ask her to address all the issues related to the situation in the north within the dialogue for the normalization of relations with Serbia, which is mediated by the European Union.

The two countries reached an agreement in 2013 to abolish Serbian parallel institutions, but its implementation has stalled.

The government of Kosovo headed by Albin Kurti now insists that it is extending law and order in the north as well.

She has warned that she plans to open the bridge over the river Ibër in Mitrovica, which divides this city into the south inhabited by the Albanian majority and the north inhabited by the Serbian majority, for the traffic of cars.

NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, reiterated on Saturday that it is "committed to contributing to security and stability" for all people living in Kosovo./ REL
