Israeli police said they had arrested a man for threatening to kill Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Police said that shortly before the start of Jewish New Year celebrations on Monday evening, a man in his 40s from the southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat entered the local police station and said he would kill Netanyahu.
"The suspect told officers he planned to buy a gun and shoot the prime minister three times," police added.
The man was arrested and is expected to be charged today. Police are continuing to hold the man in custody, possibly until the legal process is complete.
Opinion polls show a decline in public support for Netanyahu during his nearly two-year war in Gaza against Hamas militants, which has raised fears that Israel will become more isolated internationally.
In Gaza, Hamas militants still hold 48 hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be still alive, and their families are urging the Israeli government to reach a deal that will return them.
