Polish President Andrzej Duda has called on NATO member states to give Kiev a clear roadmap to join the Alliance.
"Ukraine is waiting for a clear signal about a clear prospect of NATO membership," Duda said on June 12 after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Paris.
Trilateral meetings involving Germany, France and Poland, known as the Weimar Triangle, began in 1991 in Weimar, Germany.
Initially, the talks aimed to bring Poland and other Eastern European states closer to the European Union and NATO.
In April, Germany approved Poland's request to export five old MiG-29 fighter jets to bolster Ukraine's air power against Russian invasion.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the request had arrived on Thursday and that Berlin's approval of the request on the same day showed that others could rely on Germany.
Germany inherited 24 MiG-29 aircraft from the former East Germany after reunification in 1990. At the time, this type of aircraft was considered one of the most advanced combat aircraft in the world.
In 2004, Berlin sent 22 such aircraft to Poland. Of the two aircraft remaining in the German military, one was destroyed in a crash and one is on display in a museum.
Poland needs prior approval from official Berlin to send these planes to another country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during a visit to Warsaw that Poland will help form a coalition of Western powers to supply Ukraine with fighter jets./VOA
