Behind the scenes of Meloni's visit to Vlora, "La Repubblica":
Edi Rama, Giorgia Meloni and Tony Blair

The three-day visit of the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni to the Albanian land at the invitation of the Prime Minister Edi Rama has been commented a lot in the Italian media. An article by the prestigious La Repubblica mentions the coincidence of Meloni's visit at the same time as that of the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

The text, which actually resembles an analysis of Meloni's visit to Albania, evidences the same approach of Meloni's right as Tony Blair. Although there is no evidence, or any evidence other than their coincidence, the Italian media see the 'escape' of the Italian leader from Puglia to Vlora as strategic.

A helicopter landed in a green meadow of Himara, Vlora prefecture where former British Prime Minister Tony Blair arrived, video dated August 13. Blair has a consultancy relationship with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Giorgia Meloni visited Vlora "one day after" the theorist of the Third Way arrived in Albania with a plane made available by the Albanian army. Both are guests of the head of the Albanian government. The news lies in the coincidence of the two visits and the neglect of a meeting between the Italian Prime Minister and Blair, at Rama's villa, on the evening of August 15.

It is not easy to try to reconstruct Meloni's August vacation, split between a luxurious and heavily armored location in Ceglie Messapica, the farm Beneficio, and an unprecedented and hazy private visit to the residence of a foreign prime minister, accompanied by his family, without details to explain the possible political significance and other indications about the files on which reasoning can be based.

In short, we can list only a few passages, with one premise: The Prime Minister has shown that she does not like the media attention around her holidays. And indeed, in an August 14 interview given to three newspapers, including Repubblica, she also complained about a drone intrusion at her holiday residence.

But let's get back to the news. On August 14, Meloni accepted Rama's invitation and went to Albania. At first, the version was that he would arrive at the coast on a private ship owned by an entrepreneur friend from Polignano, Pippo L'Abbate. In the following hours, on the morning of the 14th, sources close to her report that she instead went to Vlora by ferry. Six and a half hour drive. However, no photo or image of her presence on board circulates online, even if the ferry is filled with thousands of Italian tourists who have chosen the country of Rama as their vacation destination this year.

However, there is a video of the Albanian Prime Minister waiting for him at the pier in the port of Vlora. Meanwhile, the Albanian media - the same ones reporting the video of Blair's arrival - claim that Meloni is instead visiting Vlora "in a private vehicle". Then, for two days, still confidentiality and no official communication. If not for the fact that the prime ministership is still given on board a boat along the Albanian coast.

Therefore, it is known that Meloni has been in Albania since August 14 and that she travels with a private boat. Who could return to Italy in a motorboat, perhaps belonging to the same entrepreneur with whom he shares holidays together with their respective families. When would the return to Italy be expected? Until yesterday afternoon, no confirmation or sightings in Apulia. According to some sources, the return would be scheduled for today. According to others, even tomorrow. Even the format of the (long) Albanian mission is unofficial: it would certainly be the journalist and the companion, Andrea Giambruno and their daughter Ginevra. Also present are his sister Arianna and her husband Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, protagonist of the last days of a communication obstacle with the Albanians and an ironic response on social networks from Rama.

The meeting with Blair is not confirmed either. Or rather: there is no official communication, as for everything else. The former British prime minister has been cooperating with the Albanian leader for some time - and on very sensitive issues. The interview could have been done in one of Rama's residences. Of course, Meloni mentioned it in 2020 in an interview for La Stampa: "Europe does not end with two options, to leave or fall to your knees. I represent Blair's right-wing third way, I am in Europe with the parties that share a confederal model."
