Erdogan provokes again: I trust Russia as much as the West
Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he trusts Russia as much as he trusts the West. Explaining his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdogan said he had failed to get him to restart the Black Sea grain deal the Kremlin pulled out of in July, but had extracted a promise for Russia to supplied 1 million tons of grain to Africa.

"I have no reason not to trust them. To the extent that the West is trustworthy, Russia is equally trustworthy. For the last 50 years, we have been waiting on the doorstep of the EU and, at this moment time, I trust Russia as much as I trust the West," Erdogan said during an interview late Monday with US broadcaster PBS in New York, where he is attending the UN General Assembly.

Ankara has maintained close ties with Russia and Ukraine during the 19-month war. In July last year, Turkey and the UN struck a deal to allow Ukrainian wheat to be transported safely from its Black Sea ports, helping to ease a global food crisis, foreign media reported . .

Moscow withdrew from the agreement two months ago, claiming that a parallel agreement to allow its exports of food products and fertilizers had not been respected.
