
Hundreds of protesters in Derna expressed their anger at officials in their region, demanding that they be held accountable for the devastating effects of storm Daniel, where thousands of people have died.
The city in eastern Libya suffered major damage a few days ago due to flooding caused by bad weather and the collapse of two dams in the surrounding area. Entire neighborhoods have been flooded, while confusion still prevails about the exact number of victims of the tragedy.
The once bustling city now resembles a bombed out landscape.
Yesterday, hundreds of residents gathered outside the city's grand mosque and held signs against eastern Libya's authorities, parliament and its president, Aguila Saleh.
Yesterday afternoon, angry protesters set fire to the house of Abdulmenam al-Ghaithi, who was serving as the mayor of Derna at the time of the floods.
