Putin is sworn in as president of Russia for the fifth time

Vladimir Putin has been officially sworn in as President of Russia, marking the start of his fifth term in office, after winning the election.

According to foreign media, at the ceremony inside the Grand Kremlin Palace, Putin placed his hand on the Russian Constitution and vowed to protect it as a crowd of select dignitaries looked on.

His new term, his third consecutive term, will keep him in power until 2030.

During his speech at this ceremony, Putin targeting the West, said that Moscow is not rejecting a dialogue with Western countries to work with Russia.

He said that Russia is ready to become an "honest" partner with anyone who is willing.

"We are not even rejecting dialogue with Western countries. We will see if they will continue to stop the development of our country and continue to put pressure on our country or look for ways to cooperate with us,"  Putin said during his inauguration speech in Moscow.

At 71, Putin dominates the domestic political landscape. On the international stage, he is in a confrontation with Western countries, which he accuses of using Ukraine as a tool to try to defeat and dismember Russia. The United States and other Western countries stayed away from Tuesday's inauguration ceremony.

Britain, Canada and most European Union countries also decided to boycott the swearing-in, but France said it would send its ambassador.

Putin in March won a landslide victory in a tightly controlled election in which two anti-war candidates were barred on technical grounds. His most prominent opponent, Alexei Navalny, died suddenly while in an Arctic prison a month ago, and other critics are in jail or forced to flee the country.
