A Polish man was sentenced to four months in prison on Wednesday after he was found guilty of punching Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen while she was walking in a Copenhagen square in June.
He was found guilty of assault charges against a civil servant and sentenced to prison. After serving his sentence, he will be deported from Denmark and banned from entering the Nordic country for six years, the court said.
He punched Frederiksen after meeting her by chance while she was walking in a public square.
"The defendant punched the prime minister on the right arm, losing the prime minister's balance," the court's decision states.
He accepted the prison sentence, according to the court.
The attack, which occurred two days before European Parliament elections, left Frederiksen with a neck injury and forced him to cancel several work engagements.
Frederiksen had said at the time that he was shocked by that incident.
The defendant told the court on Tuesday that he had known Frederiksen, but denied touching him, according to the court./ REL
