Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last shah, announced the creation of a new commission aimed at laying the groundwork for a future truth commission in Iran and appointed Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi to head it.

According to the AFP agency, Pahlavi, who lives in the United States and exercises influence in the Iranian diaspora but holds no official position, stated that the transitional justice commission will draft "regulations for a commission and a court that will investigate the truth."

According to the exiled crown prince, the group will seek justice for "victims of injustice, torture and repression by the Islamic Republic."

In a post on the X platform, he announced that Shirin Ebadi will lead the commission, which he described as a group of “experienced Iranian experts from four different generations.” He also named Dutch-Iranian law professor Afshin Ellian, activist Iraj Mesdaghi, and physician Leila Bahmani as members.

Pahlavi is one of the leading figures in opposition movements based outside Iran. His public position was strengthened after he supported the January protests against the Iranian theocracy, where some protesters demanded the restoration of the deposed monarchy.

According to reports, up to 30,000 Iranians were killed during the ruling regime's crackdown on protests.
