The United Kingdom and its European allies have expressed deep concern over the launch of the Israeli ground operation in Lebanon. The UK, along with Canada, France, Germany and Italy, have issued a joint official statement saying they are “deeply concerned” by the escalation of violence on Lebanese soil.
In the statement, the leaders of these countries emphasize the urgent need for real engagement by Israeli and Lebanese representatives to negotiate a lasting political solution and avoid further deterioration of the situation.
They warn that a major ground offensive would have devastating humanitarian consequences and could lead to a protracted, uncontrollable conflict in the region. The statement comes after the Israeli military confirmed that it has launched “limited and targeted” ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Earlier in the day, Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, described it as a "ground maneuver" planned to expand the security zone and strike key Hezbollah infrastructure.
This action marks a new escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has been ongoing since 2024 and now appears to be entering a new ground phase in southern Lebanon.
