At least four people were killed in an Iranian missile attack on a residential building in Beer Sheva, Israel, moments before a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump was to take effect.

“There was extensive destruction and damage to residential buildings as a result of a direct and fatal hit,” said Eliya Yitzhak Tobol, head of the Beer Sheva branch of the emergency response organization, United Hatzalah.

According to initial reports, the rocket hit a populated area, causing panic among residents and extensive damage to numerous buildings.

The incident occurred as the international community expressed hope for a reduction in tensions following the reaching of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, brokered by the United States.

In footage obtained by international media, Israeli emergency services and security officers are seen searching for victims in the ruins of a building hit by an Iranian missile.
