Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the West is now demanding a ceasefire without preconditions in Ukraine, something that Vladimir Zelensky categorically rejected just a few years ago.
He said that those who once shouted that Russia should not be allowed to win in Ukraine, (referring to the EU and the Biden administration), are now begging for an unconditional ceasefire.
" Remember how it all began. Russia will be strategically defeated on the battlefield. They were practically screaming and becoming hysterical. Over time, their narrative changed; they began to loudly assert that Russia should not be allowed to win in Ukraine. Now, they are begging and demanding an immediate ceasefire without preconditions. This is exactly what Zelensky resolutely rejected a few years ago, when he still supported the goal of a strategic defeat for Russia on the battlefield. The failure of Western strategy and tactics is clear, yet Europe keeps trying," Lavrov said at the 11th Primakov Readings, an international forum of scholars and experts.
Lavrov stressed that, unlike the West, Russia has maintained a consistent approach to resolving the Ukraine issue.
"President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed these principles in detail during discussions at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. In contrast, the strategies of Western leaders are constantly changing, which, in essence, highlights the failure of their initial plans ," he noted.
