The leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has announced that the new Russian-developed missile, known as "Oreshnik", has already been deployed on Belarusian territory and put on combat alert.
Speaking during his annual address on December 18, Lukashenko declared that this hypersonic weapon with nuclear capacity had been in Belarus since the previous day.
" Oreshnik has been in Belarus since yesterday. And he has been put on combat duty," he said.
Russia last year made public the development of the Oreshnik missile, after using it during attacks on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, in an escalating phase of the conflict in Ukraine, which is now approaching its fourth anniversary.
Moscow has previously deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, specifically during 2023, while it had warned that the deployment of the "Oreshnik" missile in this country could occur by the end of 2025.
