Russia against the ceasefire, Lavrov: We want a reliable peace agreement, other

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with Russian media said that a ceasefire in Ukraine would be a dead end at this point in the conflict.

He emphasized that a ceasefire only interests Ukraine, to reorganize and arm itself to face the Russian attack.

" A lot has been said about this issue. The [Russian] president has repeatedly spoken about it, especially during his question-and-answer session, the Valdai discussion club event and on other occasions. We will not be satisfied with talk What we have heard so far is talk of the need to reach a cease-fire, and no one hides that the purpose of the cease-fire is to buy time to continue flooding Ukraine with weapons and make it possible for them to to unite, mobilize and so on ", he pointed out.

Lavrov said Russia needs a credible final peace agreement and to document Russia's guarantees.

" The ceasefire is a dead end. We need final, legally binding agreements that will document the conditions for guaranteeing Russia's security and, of course, the legitimate interests of our neighbors, but in a way based on international law that will make it impossible to violate of these agreements ," he added.

The senior Russian diplomat noted that those agreements should first and foremost address the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine.

"The first of the two main causes was the violation of all promises not to expand NATO to the east and the aggressive policy of the NATO countries that aimed to absorb the entire geopolitical space up to our borders. The same fate was prepared for Ukraine and them. Keep talking about it, as for the second root cause, of course it has to do with the absolutely discriminatory actions that the Kiev regime took after the coup, officially announcing and legally establishing a policy to destroy everyone. Russian things, including the language, media, culture and even the use of the Russian language in everyday life, as well as the ban on the canonical Orthodox Church of Ukraine," Lavrov stressed.
