Moscow has banned the entry of 54 British citizens, including government officials, journalists and public relations specialists, allegedly because of London's "anti-Russian" stance.
Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday (August 18) that it has added to the Kremlin's blacklist the UK's culture minister, Lucy Frazer, as well as Annabel Goldie, the politician in the Ministry of Defense who is responsible for supplying Ukraine with uranium ammunition.
In all, 300 Britons are now blacklisted by the Kremlin, among many from many Western countries who are supporting Ukraine in the ongoing war of aggression that Russia launched in February 2022.
Among those sanctioned are also legal and security specialists, such as Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This court has issued an arrest warrant for the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.
Moscow has also sanctioned the management of a consulting firm, specializing in risks in war zones, for allegedly supporting militarily what the Kremlin calls the "regime" in Kiev.
This company provided Ukraine with intelligence information and prepared sabotage and reconnaissance groups to be deployed in war zones, according to Moscow.
This decision by Moscow also blacklists journalists from the British public broadcaster, the BBC, The Guardian media group and The Daily Telegraph newspaper, for allegedly "fabricating defamation against Russia", the Russian Ministry said without giving any examples.
The Kremlin emphasized that the blacklist is still being worked on. The bans are widely seen as retaliation for the large number of sanctions the West has imposed on Russia during its ongoing war.
