An Oscar "career" of deception. A life that looks like a movie, that of Matteo Politi. The script of his story is a mix between "Catch me if you can" and "Grey's Anatomy". This is because "Dr. Matteo Politi, specialist in cosmetic and aesthetic medicine" - that's how he qualifies on Facebook and Instagram, where he boasts over 1,200 followers - in reality, he didn't go beyond the eighth grade.
In Bucharest he called himself "Doctor Matthey Mode".
However, contrary to his "zero qualifications", he poses as a doctor for more than 15 years, first in Italy and then abroad.
"Dr. Matteo Politi alias Matthew Mode" wherever he goes, he qualifies as a "VIP doctor", an expert in aesthetic medicine, a "magician of plastic surgery".
Now 43 years old, just like then, the self-styled doctor continues fearlessly to fool everyone. And he always succeeds, even though his "leitmotif" has remained the same: he only has a high school diploma, but everywhere he goes he presents himself as a doctor with a degree from the best universities in the world.
After being exposed, denounced and tried in 2010 in Verona, he tried again "successfully" in Romania. In Bucharest, the fake surgeon managed to operate undisturbed for more than a year in four elite clinics, treating hundreds of patients without any skills.
In 2019, as well as in Italy, he was discovered red-handed in Romania as well, where he was kept under arrest for 30 days, an authentic national scandal broke out and the case of the "fake Italian doctor" ended at the front.
The media was covered with headlines about how "nurses have said that 'Dr. Politi-Mode didn't even know how to wear surgical gloves."
The last sightings in Hong Kong
The result was a trial that resulted in three years and ten months in prison for fraud, a sentence that became final in March of this year. The Court of Bucharest also decided that, given the confirmation of the sentence on appeal, he should serve the sentence in prison.
