The President of the United States has not been given a raise in over 20 years.
This means that Donald Trump will earn the same salary as his predecessor: $400,000 per year, as specified in Title 3 of the US Code, paid monthly.
The president also receives an additional $50,000 for expenses (non-taxable), a $100,000 travel account and an entertainment budget of $19,000.
Of course, the country's commander-in-chief is also entitled to other perks, not the least of which is a paid residence known as the White House, as a residence.
Between 1969 and 2001, the last time Congress raised the chief executive's salary, the president earned $200,000 a year.
How much did US presidents earn in the past?
Historically, the president's annual salary was worth much more when inflation was taken into account.
Here's what presidents made per year during previous historical periods, according to the University of Michigan, citing the Congressional Quarterly's "Guide to the Presidency."

It is worth noting that presidents remain on the federal government payroll even after leaving the White House.
Since 1958, former presidents have earned an annual pension that now totals more than $200,000.
