Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has stated that no Croatian soldier will go to Ukraine until he is the president of the country and the supreme commander of the armed forces.
At the same time, he accused Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic of "personal promotion" and if he could, he would take Croatians and Croatian soldiers to war in Ukraine.
"Even though Andrej Plenkovic, due to his personal promotion, is clearly willing to participate in creating an alibi for the failures of Brussels' previous strategy to stop the war in Ukraine, the president of the republic guarantees that Croatia and its soldiers will not participate in that," announced Milanovic's press service in a statement.
He assessed that "the only solution to the war in Ukraine is to reach a peace agreement that will prevent new victims and save thousands of lives."
"The president of the republic has said this since the beginning of the war and this will be his policy in the future," the statement said.
Milanovic reacted to Plenkovic's statement after returning from the summit of Ukraine's western allies in Paris that Croatia has not offered to send Croatian soldiers to Ukraine.
Plenkovic recalled that the Croatian Parliament had previously not approved Croatia's participation in the training of Ukrainian soldiers, which, according to him, was of a benign nature, nor had it offered to leave Croatian soldiers in Ukraine.
Milanovic said in the statement that with that statement, Plenkovic has confirmed that he is a "prime minister with dangerous intentions", who, if he could, would lead Croats and Croatian soldiers to war in Ukraine.
"It is clear from his words that Croatia has not offered to send its soldiers to Ukraine only because Plenkovic cannot now count on the support of the Croatian Parliament and the President of the Republic for such nonsense," Milanovic said.
The President stressed that for the sake of the security and interests of Croatia and its citizens, Plenkovic must give clear answers to the questions discussed in Paris, on whose behalf he receives the right to participate in the discussions on the participation of Croatian soldiers in war. in Ukraine and whether he is pushing for the introduction of mandatory military training in Croatia in order to prepare Croatian soldiers to be sent to war in Ukraine.
