German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed satisfaction with Ukraine's counter-offensive, according to him, the Kiev army has "advanced in a very precise and well-organized way so far.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Scholz said he "never expected everything to change overnight," but added that the Ukrainian defense forces had planned operations in a very structured way.
Meanwhile, Ciolacu said that Romania had expected the conflict to end with the Ukrainian counterattack, but added that it had to count on a longer conflict.
While Ukraine remains in a state of war, it cannot become a member of NATO, Scholz said, adding that the criteria for NATO membership includes the condition that the country is not in any active conflict.
