Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei spoke this morning about the possibility of resuming negotiations with the US. Asked whether the door to talks with Washington had been closed following the resumption of hostilities, Baghaei said the diplomatic apparatus remains active.
"I reject the duality of war or diplomacy. Diplomacy is a means through which we pursue our national interests, just like war. We have been informed by mediators, we have received messages - without going into details - but the main point is that the diplomatic apparatus has been active in recent days and ideas have been conveyed to us by certain mediators ," he said.
The US resumed attacks on Iran after claiming Tehran had continued to attack or threaten commercial ships in the strategic waterway despite the ceasefire, with some analysts and even US officials claiming the Memorandum of Understanding was "vague".
Esmaiel Bagaei, spokesman for Tehran's foreign ministry, denies this, calling it a short text that has 14 clauses.
"We had said from the beginning that the responsibility for the future management of the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran and this issue will be pursued in consultation with Oman and through dialogue with the countries of the region. The text is completely clear and there is no justification for America to violate the treaty ," he added.
