Tensions in the Middle East are reaching another boiling point, with senior US sources confirming active preparations for a military strike against Iran. According to a report by Axios, the Pentagon has held high-level meetings this week with defense and intelligence officials from Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The focus of these meetings has been precisely the identification of potential targets on Iranian territory, a direct initiative from Washington. Israeli General Shlomi Binder, head of military intelligence, held talks with Pentagon, CIA and White House officials, while Mossad director David Barnea has also been in the US for consultations with the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman is in Washington for meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Despite participating in these talks, Saudi Arabia has expressed open opposition to the use of its territory or airspace for attacks on Iran.

Saudi Arabia seeks to maintain a neutral role in the potential escalation and has sought to mediate between Washington and Tehran. The kingdom recalls the aftermath of the 12-day war of June 2025, when Iran warned of attacks on refineries and critical infrastructure in Gulf states if their territory was used for US attacks.

These warnings remain valid today. The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, received direct assurances from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that the US would not be allowed to use Saudi airspace.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has increased its military presence in the region, with the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln deployed to Middle Eastern waters. “The current order is: prepare. But the President is expected to make a final decision on Iran in the coming days,” a US official confirmed to Axios.
