US destroys Iranian military tower near Hormuz, footage of attack released

The US Central Command has released a video showing the moment when US forces struck an Iranian naval observation tower in the port of Chabahar, near the Strait of Hormuz.

The footage shows the object being targeted and then destroyed by the explosion. At the same time, videos filmed by citizens are also circulating on social media, showing the moment of the strike from a different perspective.

A photo from the moment of the attack was also published by US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, on his account on the X platform. Alongside the photo, he recalled a previous post in which he wrote that "Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz."

In an official statement, CENTCOM announced that on July 16, US forces destroyed the observation tower at the Shahid Kalantari port in Chabahar. According to the US military, the facility was part of a maritime surveillance network along the Iranian coast in the Gulf of Oman and had been used for decades by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to monitor and identify commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, the destruction of the tower weakens the Revolutionary Guard's ability to coordinate attacks on merchant ships and contributes to ensuring freedom of navigation in the region, with the exception of vessels that, according to the US, are attempting to violate the US naval blockade of Iran.

The attack was part of the sixth wave of US military operations against Iranian targets, mainly concentrated in the south and southwest of the country. According to reports, it is the most intensive US strike since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the US military has denied Iranian claims that it has killed American soldiers in Syria. In a statement on Platform X, CENTCOM denied Iranian reports that US forces had been hit at the Al-Tanf base, near the Syria-Jordan border.

A Syrian military source, quoted by the French News Agency (AFP), also denied that Iran had bombed the Al-Tanf base, stressing that US forces had withdrawn from that base in February.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Ministry of Energy called on citizens to limit electricity consumption, as the power grid is facing great pressure following US attacks on energy infrastructure in the south of the country.

In its announcement, the ministry urged residents to turn off air conditioning during peak hours to ensure a stable electricity supply in the southern provinces, which are simultaneously facing extreme temperatures and damage to the power grid following the attacks.
