
The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, made an official visit to Turkey yesterday, where he met with President Erdogan.
Rutte praised Turkey for its commitment to the collective security of the Alliance, as they also discussed Kosovo.
Rutte also congratulated Turkey on the successful completion of command of the NATO peacekeeping mission KFOR in Kosovo, stating that Turkey's continued contribution is crucial in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all in Kosovo.
He pointed out that Turkey has the second largest army in NATO and spends over 2% of GDP on defense.
Secretary General and President Erdogan spoke about Russia's war in Ukraine. Rutte praised Turkey for strongly supporting Ukraine's defense industry with the munitions, artillery and aid it needs, as well as playing a key role in initiatives such as the Black Sea Grain Agreement and other diplomatic efforts.
Rutte also thanked Turkey for the major role it plays in the fight against terrorism, including the NATO mission in Iraq.
During his official stay in Ankara, Mr. Rutte also visited the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Mausoleum, a memorial site dedicated to honoring the legacy and contributions of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
