A new lava flow has formed at an altitude of about 3,000 meters on Etna, specifically from an eruptive hole located on the southern slope of Bocca Nuova.
According to a statement from the Etna Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), which constantly monitors the activity of the volcano, the lava flow is moving southward, while INGV personnel are engaged in on-site measurements to assess the evolution of the phenomenon. From a seismic point of view, no significant changes have been recorded.
The volcanic tremor originates at an altitude of 2,800 meters, in the area between Voragine and the Nord-Est crater. Due to the continuous activity, Vona, the INGV department responsible for air traffic, has issued an orange alert.
However, for the time being, Catania airport remains operational. Authorities continue to monitor the situation with the utmost care, official announcements say.
