Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has proposed an international commission of inquiry into the explosion of the Kekhovka dam in Ukraine. The proposal came during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation with Russian Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called the destruction of the Kakhovka dam "a barbaric act by Kiev", carried out at the suggestion of "Western curators". This was reported by the Kremlin press service quoted by Tass.

Flooding as a result of the explosion of the Nova Kakhova dam is expected to reach its peak. Thirty communities along the Dnipro River have been flooded after the Kakhovka dam broke on Tuesday, according to an update from the interior minister. Officials also said thousands of people had been evacuated from their homes.

Hundreds of thousands of people do not even have clean water. The Ukrainian military has used drones to drop bottles on some trapped residents. Far from immediate humanitarian needs, officials warn that irrigation systems have been wiped out and that it could take years for affected farmland to recover.

Ukraine has called for an international effort to help thousands of people in the Russian-occupied territory whose homes have been flooded. President Zelensky has accused aid agencies of failing to help - including those from the UN as well as the Red Cross.

Both sides continued to blame each other for the disaster.
