Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabič has announced her resignation from the post of head of the government. At 20:00 she appeared at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandër Vucic, where she stated that she has put her resignation on the table. She said she is ready to leave if the opposition asks.
She said the best way is for the country to go to elections. " I'm always ready to resign, but when society is in crisis, the only way is to talk, and they don't want to talk, I'm ready and count on my resignation, you have it on the table. I think the way out of the crisis there are parliamentary elections until the end of the year, I leave it to the President of the Republic to make a decision ", said the Prime Minister.
Brnabic said that she has performed her duties in the best possible way and that the results of her executive are indisputable.
" Not everything was perfect, but we did our best and I think we have results that every citizen, if they are honest, can be proud of ," she said.
On the other hand, Vucic was the one who warned that he is ready to lead the country to the elections. He said that he is ready to negotiate with the opponents, but if a common language is not found, then there will be elections.
" If Brnabić resigns, SNS will not want a new prime minister, because we are satisfied with Ana Brnabić's work. Then we have a deadline of 45 to 60 days to hold new elections, and we are ready to negotiate accordingly. I believe we will find interlocutors. If this does not happen, we will go to the elections, but the Government will not be elected on the streets and there will be no transitional government ," he said.
The majority, he said, will try to be fair and prudent and make a technical agreement with the "minority".
" It is clear that we will have early parliamentary elections and now it is only a matter of months ," he said.
