A boatload of migrants was rescued on Christmas Day in a sea area south of Heraklion in Crete.
According to "neakriti.gr", a boat with migrants was found approximately 44 nautical miles south of Kala Limena. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, with the assistance of the Coast Guard, while the people on board were transported safely.
A total of 40 people were rescued, including 37 men, one woman and two minor children. All of the rescuers are Sudanese nationals and, according to preliminary information, are in good health.
The migrants were transferred to a safe place in Kali Limenes, where they were provided with the necessary care, while the established registration and accommodation procedures were followed.
